Life after WWII

  1. Introduction – “What was life like for soldiers returning home from World War II?” When soldiers came home to the lives they left behind, some experienced positive changes while others experienced negative. Some soldiers came home to find jobs and new advancements to society. Soldiers were earning more money, moving into new houses and having bigger families. Thesis statement - The lives of soldiers after WWII were changed due to the environment at home, economics and personal relationships.

  1. The post-war era shaped the lives of soldiers, including their families.
  2. The war ended because the Axis powers surrendered and the atomic bombs were dropped on Japan. Men were allowed to return home to their families.
  3. The war ended in 1945 and soldiers were returning home to their families. Factories were no long making war material; instead they were making items that made life more “peace like” for soldiers.
  4. Men were moving their families to suburban areas and having bigger families.
  5. New social advancements were created such as TV and nicer cars.
  6. Women were now back to working in the homes and men took over work again.

  1. Analysis

  1. From reading the narratives from former WWII veterans three inferences have been made.
i. Most soldiers were happy to be home, marriage
ii. Many made more money, went to college (Teaching degrees) (GI BILL)
iii. Created bigger families and moved them to the suburb area
